Deputy Director of Historic Preservation
Historic Seattle invites applications for the position of Deputy Director of Preservation.  Historic Seattle is the only city-wide non-profit organization devoted exclusively to the preservation of Seattle’s historic and architectural legacy.  Since its founding in 1974, Historic Seattle has been a major advocate for and active participant in thoughtful and meaningful preservation and rehabilitation of historic buildings, landscapes and architectural artifacts.  Additional information is available at: http://www.historicseattle.org
 
This highly responsible individual will oversee the preservation services section of Historic Seattle, working directly with the Executive Director to shape an active and effective advocacy program. The ideal candidate has knowledge of and expertise regarding the historic sites and cultural environment of Seattle; a demonstrated ability to support and build coalitions around the protection and reuse of endangered properties; and the capacity to educate and engage the public about the value preservation brings to a sustainable urban environment.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technical assistance directly to constituents and  through implementation of  Historic Seattle’s NW Resource Center.
 
Development and implementation of preservation policies and initiatives
 
Program development, grant writing, and project management
 
Community outreach and coordination of advocacy with city, community groups and individuals
 
Budget and administrative oversight of preservation-directed activities and staff
 
Other duties as assigned
 
The position reports to the Executive Director.  A competitive salary and benefits package is offered.
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:  Baccalaureate Degree is required and a Masters Degree is preferred
 
Experience:  Minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in preservation or related fields or with a Masters or other advanced degree a minimum of three years of professional experience is required.    Ability to work effectively with people of diverse personalities, cultures and communication styles, including volunteers, community leaders, business representatives, board members, and staff colleagues.  Experience in a non-profit setting preferred.
 
Verbal and Written Communication:   Exceptional verbal and writing skills are sought.  The ability to conduct research, effectively present to large groups, facilitate discussions, and speak publicly is necessary.
 
Computer Skills:
Fluency  in Microsoft products (e.g., Word, Access, Excel, Outlook, Explorer, and PowerPoint) and related software programs is required.
 
Abilities:   The Deputy Director has strong, proven people management skills; is self-directed; flexible; goal-oriented; and organizes his/her  time effectively.   He/She must be able to prioritize quickly and cope with deadline pressures and project needs.  A sense of humor and ability to work in a team environment are highly valued.
 
SCHEDULE AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Schedule is based on a 40 hour work week.  Work is performed primarily in the historic HSPDA main office (Dearborn House) as well as in the field; telecommuting options may be considered.  A portion of the work also occurs offsite at other buildings owned by HSPDA and other sites. Participation in late afternoon, evening and weekend meetings will be required. Driver’s license required.
