Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - Director, NE Field Office

WORK OBJECTIVES:
Oversees the operations of the Northeast Field Office in Philadelphia by directing the delivery of field services, programs and resources, and helping to build partnerships within the region to advance historic preservation results.  Provides direct assistance to constituencies in Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, through correspondence, direct field assistance, public presentations, testimony, workshops, conferences and seminars, and special projects directed at regional preservation issues.  Focuses intensively on strengthening the organized historic preservation movement, with emphasis on developing capacity of local and statewide non-profit organizations.  Reviews and comments on legislation grant proposals including applications for National Trust financial assistance, environmental reviews, and other documents as appropriate; assists partners with legislative advocacy work.  As delegated by Northeast Regional Director, serves as a principal liaison for Trust preservation services programs, national special programs, or demonstration projects.  Supervises and establishes annual work program of Field Representative in the Northeast Field Office.
 
DUTIES:
1. Oversee the operations of the Northeast Field Office in Philadelphia by directing the delivery of field services, programs and by helping to build partnerships within the region;
 
2. Provide direct assistance to constituencies in DE, NJ and PA, through field assistance, correspondence, public presentation, testimony, workshops, seminars, conferences and special projects;
 
3. Serve as principal liaison in DE, NJ and PA for Trust programs, grants and loan programs, special national programs and demonstration projects, or as directed by the Regional Director;

4. Perform all duties with the aim of helping to achieve the National Trust’s strategic goals, including engaging the public and reaching diverse communities and constituents, as well as building partnerships and increasing financial independence;
 
5. In association with the Regional Director, represent the National Trust and serve as liaison with government agencies, state historic preservation offices, statewide organizations, Trust advisors, local organizations and other constituents;
 
6. Provide non-profit management counsel to statewide non-profit partners, and with them, work to strengthen and/or create local non-profit organizations achieving preservation results; 
 
7. In coordination with the Regional Director and the Public Policy Department, assist statewide organizations in achieving public policy and legislative advocacy goals, review and comment on legislation, provide testimony, and leadership on advocacy strategy and objectives;
 
8. In coordination with the Regional Director, identify and cultivate new regional donor relationships and assist in fundraising for core budget and special projects;
 
9. Recommend annual work program, budget, field services and special projects;
 
10. Oversee and supervise work of NE Field Office Field Representative; and 
 
11. Maintain Field Office operations, including equipment, lease agreements, etc. 
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum five years experience in historic preservation.  Undergraduate degree in historic preservation or related field required; graduate or professional study preferred.  Experience in non-profit development and/or management, fundraising, legislative and public policy advocacy very desirable.  Training and experience in planning, real estate and law also desirable.  Strong written and oral communications skills and experience in public speaking required.  Willingness to work in team environment with creative approach to problem solving.  Supervisory experience preferred. 
 
Successful candidate must be a self starter, a highly motivated and energetic person who can work independently and in a small office environment.  Willingness and ability to travel and be away from home overnight is essential.
