Las Posadas Del Viejo San Agustin – The Posadas of Old St. Augustine
December 17, 2016, St. Augustine, Florida
For over 400 years, the colonial Hispanic Christmas tradition of Las Posadas has been celebrated by processions throughout the New World. The event is a re-enactment of Mary and Joseph’s search for lodgings (Spanish: “posadas”) in Bethlehem on the first Christmas Eve.
On Saturday, December 17th, 2016, Florida Living History volunteers will present Las Posadas del Viejo San Agustín – a night-time, candle-lit heritage Event, set in the year 1580. From 7PM to 8PM, citizens and visitors are invited to join FLH as we process along St. George Street in historic downtown St. Augustine, Florida, the oldest continuously occupied, European city, port, and parish in the continental United States.
