This Giving Tuesday, Help the Florida Trust Seed our 11 to Save Fund

Built in 1939, the S.H. Johnson X-Ray Clinic reflects the reality of segregated life in Miami during the early decades of the 20th century. The property was on the 2020 11 to Save list.
You’ve heard about #BlackFriday and #CyberMonday, but what about #GivingTuesday? This year, the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation is participating in this international day of giving with all donations going to the new 11 to Save Fund for the 11 to Save program.

Each year, the Florida Trust announces its 11 to Save program as part of its annual conference, Preservation on Main Street.
The 11 to Save program is designed to increase the public’s awareness of endangered historic resources and to encourage public engagement in identifying and saving these important pieces of Florida’s history. The program works to inclusively empower local communities and preservation groups in their efforts to preserve Florida’s culturally diverse rich history.
Recently, the Florida Trust Board of Directors announced the creation of the 11 to Save Fund and provided an initial seed donation of $5,000 to begin financial support for some of the most threatened historic resources throughout the state.
The 11 to Save Fund will provide tangible and targeted assistance to 11 to Save properties throughout the state. Working closely with the 11 to Save ambassador for each property to determine needs, funds can be utilized for actions like helping to stabilize a historic building, funding historic markers, supporting community engagement activities and providing financial assistance for grant writers or other communication needs.
The 11 to Save Fund is a response to the needs we’ve seen in our 11 to Save program and reflects our desire to further the support and assistance we provide. We are excited to be able to do more to preserve these historic resources, which are really showcases for how historic preservation can be a part of building stronger, healthier communities throughout the state.

The Florida Trust recently worked with the Gullah Geechee community of Cosmo to design and install heritage signage highlighting the 2020 11 to Save site's cultural heritage, history and story.
