On the first day of March the Florida Trust team embarked on event two of our Regional Council Road Tour – this time in St. Petersburg, Florida, a part of Region 5! Region 5 is made up of Hardee, Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas and Polk counties.
Florida Trust Board Members Kelly Perkins and Julie Byrd orchestrated a regional awareness event
that took place in the beautiful Sunken Gardens. Sunken Gardens is located in the Historic Old Northeast neighborhood of St. Petersburg and is considered one of the oldest roadside tourist attractions in the United States.
The team members at Sunken Gardens were so gracious to host us as well as provide complimentary beverages to all guests creating
an idyllic setting for a happy hour. Known as St. Petersburg’s oldest living museum, Sunken Gardens includes more than 50,000 exotic tropical plants and birds.
The guests of the event included preservationists and preservation-minded individuals from organizations such as Preserve the ‘Burg, the Deuces and the City of St. Petersburg.
The Florida Trust team presented brief opening remarks followed by words of welcome from the staff at Sunken Gardens. It was such a treat to be surrounded by individuals who inspire our work statewide.
All guests in attendance had the opportunity to mingle, collaborate and learn about the scope of one another’s work. We were even treated to an impromptu tour led by a knowledgeable member of the Sunken Gardens Forever Foundation.
“We are incredibly appreciative of the connections we were able to make at this regional event and we
hope to continue to steward those new friendships,” says Yasmin Khan-Hohensee, development director. “Our road tour has been off to a great start!”
